On January 29, 1886, Karl Benz applied for a patent for his invented three-wheeled vehicle in Berlin. This day is considered the birthday of the invention — the automobile, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2011. On the same day, Gottlieb Daimler created the first four-wheeled automobile. Thus, the founders of Daimler AG and its globally successful flagship brand Mercedes-Benz, working independently, laid the foundation for the production of all modern passenger cars, trucks, and buses. Over time, the company, unlike other car manufacturers, has developed more steadily, focusing on all critical aspects of the business — from technology to design, ensuring comfort and safety.
Innovation has been the key factor to success for the car manufacturer and its significance only grows today. Without the courage to seek new ideas, the automobile would not have been invented, and without innovation, there would be no progress. The company "Mercedes-Benz", the inventor of the automobile, has always aimed to actively develop this mode of transportation. Since the presentation of Karl Benz's "Motorwagen Patent" and Gottlieb Daimler's "Motor Car" in 1886, the company has registered over 80,000 patents, confirming its leadership in technology. "Benz's Motorwagen Patent" was the world's first automobile, a symbol of innovative spirit and craftsmanship. The design of this masterfully crafted three-wheeled vehicle marked the beginning of the speed era. Daimler's motorized carriage, on the other hand, became the first four-wheeled automobile.

These two vehicles marked the beginning of a unique success story — a story in which "Mercedes-Benz" continues to add new chapters. The company’s inventions have always been steps ahead — from the "hopelessly" criticized "self-propelled carriage" in Stuttgart to the modern car, which has become not only a symbol of personal freedom but also a cornerstone of the economy. Among the company’s most important innovations were the first bus, the first truck, and the first modern passenger car — the 1900 Mercedes 35hp, presented in February 1900.
Mercedes 35hp: the prototype of all modern passenger cars.
At the dawn of the century, the Mercedes 35hp, the prototype of all modern passenger cars, embodied a completely new automobile architecture. It was a transition from the long "motor carriage" to the car we all know today. Key innovations included a long wheelbase, wide track, low center of gravity, and a tilted steering column. These innovations laid the groundwork for comfortable and safe driving, and Mercedes was its first manifestation.
